Who We Serve & How We Work
boston college career center
Today's career paths are full of exciting challenges and new opportunities, so you'll need the skills to last a lifetime of job searches and career shifts. We approach successful outcomes from a liberal arts perspective, empowering you to shape your own future.
Career development is a campuswide effort, with many faculty and staff professionals personally helping you find internships, apply to graduate schools or just understand your options. Your career discernment and planning starts from the moment you first step foot on campus and continues throughout your life.
Our role as coaches is to help students discover within themselves the answers to the questions: What brings me joy? What am I good at? What does the world need me to be? From there, we can connect students with resources to help them explore the world of work and to prepare for and conduct a successful internship, job, or graduate school search.
The Boston College Career Center celebrates the diversity of our student body and appreciates that each student brings to us a unique background, life story, and set of interests, skills, and goals. We also recognize that each student goes through the career discernment and planning process at his/her own pace.
To meet the wide range of needs of our students, we have created three teams to coach them at every stage of the career discovery process. The Career Center welcomes all BC undergraduate and graduate students to access our online resources and attend our events.
In addition, students enrolled in the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences, Connell School of Nursing, Lynch School of Education, Woods College of Advancing Studies, and School of Theology and Ministry are invited to schedule an appointment with our career coaches. Undergraduate students in the Carroll School of Management who are unsure of their career interests may also schedule an appointment with our Career Exploration staff.
The following schools within Boston College have their own targeted career centers and resources for the students enrolled in their programs:
Career Exploration Team
This team works with students in the early stages of career discovery, guiding them to:
- identify skills, values, and interests through self-assessment
- explore or change majors
- investigate different career paths
Career Engagement Team
This team works with students who have a sense of their career direction, guiding them to:
- explore a specified field or industry
- search for full-time and internship positions
- conduct informational interviews and network
- prepare for interviews
- evaluate a job offer
The Employer Engagement Team helps students connect directly with employers, alumni, parents, and friends of Boston College specifically interested in hiring BC students for internships and jobs. Working closely with the Career Exploration and Career Engagement Teams, this team oversees campus-based recruiting and career fairs, industry-specific student/ alumni networking events, experiential learning opportunities, job listings, corporate sponsorship programs and educational events, and the EagleLink recruiting database.
