The Certificate in Serving Exceptional Learners in Catholic Schools is designed to prepare participants to serve the diverse learning and behavioral needs of their students who are atypical learners. Teachers will sharpen their skills in managing classrooms of diverse learners, connect their practice with new research findings, and learn practical strategies to enhance student learning. Although this certificate does not fully prepare teachers to be special educators, it addresses the key strategies needed for serving these students in Catholic school classrooms.
The Department of Teaching, Curriculum, and Society provides this preparation within the highly ranked and internationally recognized Lynch School of Education and Human Development. Our geographic proximity to the concentration of academic and nonprofit institutions in the Greater Boston and Northeast region—and our extraordinary alumni network—provide significant opportunities to enhance your professional career.
The first option is a 4 course, 8 credit certificate.
The second option involves completion of the certificate as part of a Boston College master's or doctoral program.
The certificate requirements may be completed in one summer.
Students can begin the program in the fall, spring, or summer semesters.

The certificate requirements may be completed in one summer. Students must obtain a B or better in each course and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA to be counted towards the certificate. Certificate courses may also be taken indivually or applied toward the completion of a M.Ed. in Education.
To be awarded the certificate, one must complete the program of study form (see link below) and have it approved by the program coordinator.
