Chris is a bilingual (Chinese and English) international student born in Tao Yuan City, Taiwan, raised in Shanghai, China. Chris is a proud first generation college student and this past May, he graduated from BC with a double major in Applied Psychology & Human Development and Biology. He currently works as a Media and Communications Coordinator in the Urban Outreach Initiatives Office. As a graduate student, Chris is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Applied Developmental Educational Psychology. In his time as an undergraduate student at BC, he was heavily involved with the dance, biking and Asian American community.
Why did you choose BC?
Chris is an aspiring educator who chose BC for graduate school because he really enjoyed his time studying in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development during his undergraduate years. Given previously acquired social capital and established networks, he hopes to continue to build upon them as means to deepen his learning and understanding of equitable education policy.
Academic and Personal Interests
In addition, he hopes to directly apply theories and practices learned through this program to the urban youth population. Ultimately, he hopes to become more informed about contemporary research surrounding positive youth development, educational policy and authentic family, school and community engagement. One of his long-term goals involve obtaining a PhD and acquiring necessary expertise to initiate community level changes to the education system back in his home country of Taiwan. In the short term, he wants to gain more experience working with community partners, parents and students, both in and out of the school setting, so that he can become a resource and bridge the two fields in future advocacy work.
Some of Chris's interests include a strong passion for dancing, biking, volleyball, basketball, slackline, playing the drums, and going to karaoke. He loves watching dance videos with his friends and is a big proponent of the urban dance scene in Boston. Trust me, Boston has some of the richest dance cultures in the world. From dance showcases, to workshops, to dance jams, to dance competitions, Chris is all about it!
